2021 Recipients
Nicolas Smith, Environment Bursary recipient, June 2021
Nicolas attends the University of Ottawa, in Management and Marketing. He is keen on applying his knowledge to real-life applications and is thankful for the people he has met in his program. This summer, he is completing an internship in marketing with an international power tool manufacturer. On the side, he volunteers with a junior hockey team in Almonte.
Isabella Daminato, Leadership and Community Engagement Bursary recipient, June 2021
Isabella attends the University of Ottawa working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. She appreciates the diversity in topics in Communications that expand beyond organizational use and look at society’s way of communicating in day to day life. She has also been working as a Junior Communications and Consultations Officer at Parks Canada since June of 2022.
2022 Recipients
Etienne Fleck, Environment Bursary recipient, June 2022
Etienne studies Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He enjoys learning challenging and intriguing concepts and collaborating with other students with similar interests and passions. He recently completed a four-month winter co-op placement at an HVAC company as a sales engineer. This summer, he is taking summer term courses while enjoying the nice weather playing spike ball, soccer and ultimate frisbee.
Caroline York, Leadership and Community Engagement Bursary recipient, June 2022
Caroline is working towards a Biomedical Sciences Bachelor with a minor in Business at the University of Guelph. She is very grateful for all the hands-on opportunities she has been able to participate in, particularly her biochemistry and anatomy labs, and for the great relationships with her classmates. She intends to apply to graduate school next year, in physiotherapy and medical programs. As she continues to be engaged in the community, she will start volunteering as a physiotherapy assistant in the fall.
2023 Recipients
Nicole Youssef, Environment Bursary recipient, June 2023
Nicole is studying at the University of Ottawa in Human Kinetics. She is very fond of the interdisciplinary nature of the program which allows her to explore various disciplines such as physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and nutrition. Since she has joined the GeeGee’s community, she has been volunteering for the volleyball intramural team throughout the school semester.
Rebecca Burns, Leadership and Community Engagement Bursary recipient, June 2023
Rebecca attends Queen’s university in Life Sciences. She enjoys the variety in course options that is helping her explore future career options. She frequently volunteered at the Markham-Stouffville Hospital and is now working at the Pickering museum for the summer.
2024 Recipients
Maximus Mondésir, Environment Bursary recipient, June 2024
York University will be Maximus’ new home in September 2024 as he begins his studies in a Business program focusing on Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He has also developed a passion for teaching while working part-time as a karate instructor. As such, he plans to pursue his studies in Education to become a high school teacher as well as start up his own karate school one day.
Joshua McGovern, Leadership and Community Engagement Bursary recipient, June 2024
Joshua will be starting a new chapter in his life at Fanshawe College in September where he is enrolled in a Carpentry program. At École catholique Pape-François, he headed the athletics council and volunteered his time to organize activities and tournaments. Outside of school, he played hockey for the Stouffville Clippers AA team and works at a local golf club.
